My wife and I absolutely enjoyed every bit of the tour downtown - Dawnie was an amazing guide and had a wealth of very interesting knowledge about Sacramento including its history, its art scene, and also a ton of local events and things to do. I know it's a food tour, but I had to mention Dawnie first since she made the whole experience so enjoyable!
As for the food, everything was sooo good, and we had very sizable portions, so expect to be very full upon completion of the tour. I don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone, so I won't mention specific items or locations, but we encountered a coffee shop, a diner/cafe, a Mexican restaurant, an American restaurant (with Michelin plate designation), and a bar/dessert cafe. The food was varied in flavor and selection, and my wife and I both appreciated getting to try diverse items we wouldn't normally order as we found some things that we are definitely going back for.
We couldn't have asked for a better experience and will be booking the additional tours for midtown, sutter district, and R street in the future. Thanks Dawnie!

Didn't get to go as they canceled a couple days prior. No reason given and it was the only day we could have attended. Very upsetting when I reserved everything in advance for our short trip.

We had a fantastic time on this 3-hour Food Tour! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared a lot about the local culture. She also had great conversations with us as a couple, making the experience feel very personal and enjoyable. The food was perfectly arranged, with each dish offering something new and delicious. The depth of knowledge that our tour guide displayed was amazing. Certainly they were things that I did not know, nor did my son who is in the hospitality industry and lives here in Sacramento. We would certainly recommend this tour for any of our fellow foodies. Aside from her food and beverage knowledge, we are able to learn a lot about Sacramento and it's downtown history.

Dawnie's tour was amazing!  Definitely made our whole Sacremento experience better!  Knowledge of the city, events, history, and of course the food/ restaurant scene. 

The combination of food and local culture was very enjoyable and informative! Dawnie did a wonderful job of explaining your city and state. The food and drinks were all yummy!

We went on a three week "tour" of the Pacific Northwest, which included the Sacramento area.  This food tour is one of the highlights we experienced.

We have always enjoyed food walking tours while on vacation for the history and local foods showcased and have probably been on more than a dozen.  By far, this was the best food tour we've experienced!  

Dawnie is so in love with the Sacramento food scene that she bubbles over and cannot contain herself in sharing that love with others.  The food at every stop was delectable and unique.  Her knowledge of Sacramento and its history only made it better.  One cannot go wrong in booking this tour!

P.S. If system would allow, I'd rate this a 10-star vs. a 5-star!  ;)

Absolutely fantastic Sac food and historical & arts tour with Dawnie who is just phenomenal!! We were spouting off fun facts about Sac for days afterwards and now have the knowledge and insider scoop on places to check out for fun and good food! Dawnie was knowledgeable and inclusive of all the guests on this trip, we had plenty of time to ask questions, enjoy the food and surroundings and there were always great stories and all around great time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Fantastic Food and Historical Tour,  Dawnie, our guide was superb, we visited really hidden places and enjoyed varying hostelries, also seeing street art and learning some culture and history of the city.  Highly recommended

The food was ok. Bread for the avocado toast was soggy. 
Other than that something you should do. She gave us recommendations for places to visit after. Knows the food seen of Sacramento like the palm of her hand.

Such a fun experience! My friend and I who attended this tour live in the 209 and have been to Sacramento many times. But being able to do a food tour for the 1st time in Sac and learn things about Sac we never knew PLUS try some really good food spots we've never been to before. Definitely worth doing this tour!

This was an absolutely amazing food tour. I've done one before - and this blows that one out the water, primarily because of our awesome tour guide Dawnie. Thank you so much for taking us around- she is an absolute treasure trove of information both of the city, food, and of many other things you might want to chat with her about. Super personable- and really made us comfortable walking around the city and trying all the delicious foods.

Food-wise- everything was a hit. We had a multi-cultural cuisine (Mexican food, Indian food, American foods, some coffee/tea, and dessert) as we enjoyed learning about the history / art / and buildings of downtown Sacramento. Experience was worth every penny. Highly recommended and if possible, try to request for Dawnie. Will be doing this again, A++

I am in Sacramento visiting my adult son who moved here three months ago. We were originally scheduled for the downtown tour but that changed to the mid town food and arts tour. We were not disappointed! The tour was fun and informative. We both learned much about Sacramento and the mural art in midtown. Dawnie was an amazing guide-personable, fun and very interesting. She clearly loves this city and the food and arts scene that is thriving here! The food we tasted a a variety of restaurants was wonderful. I highly recommend this tour!

Our guide, Dawnie, was so much fun, sharing her knowledge of Sacramento history, murals and delicious food and drinks with our group. We visited a '70's record shop/deli, coffee bar, spice shop and Mexican restaurant while passing the cathedral, gardens/parks and the city's vast collection of murals. Highly recommend!

We live about an hour away from Sacramento and had visited the city many times, but this food tour gave us an entirely new experience there. The comfortably-paced walking tour was loaded with interesting tidbits of the city's history that were new to us. We were taken to eateries that we had never tried, with a well-chosen variety of foods. Our tour had 6 participants: myself, my husband, our 2 adult daughters (all celebrating my birthday) along with another couple. Our tour guide, Dawnie, made us all feel so welcome to her home city and took the time to engage each of us individually during the delightful time spent on our tour. I must add that the booking confirmation included specific details on where to meet and how to get there, where to park, etc. We enjoyed this tour so much, we're going to book another one with Local Roots, to explore a different area of Sacramento.

Had such a great time on this food tour with Dawnie. As a newcomer to Sacramento, it was great to get a history of the place while enjoying delicious food. This was definitely well worth the money--waaaaay more food than I was expecting--I wish I could have taken leftovers! I plan to come back to Sacramento and bring another family member on one of these food tours.

I enjoyed the Downtown Sacramento Historical Food tour with Dawnie. She was very knowledgeable about Sacramento, the local murals and the food scene. The tour had a delightful selection of food and drinks, and I discovered new places I wouldn't usually try. 
For example, if it weren't for the tour, I wouldn't know about K street and its history.

I've been on food tours before and this was was pretty underwhelming for a few reasons.  The first stop was not a stop at all--the guide brought donuts and coffee from a place we didn't visit and we ate them out front of a hotel...OK...

The next stop we were served a lox and cream cheese--filled with ingredients lots of people don't actually care for (onions, cold smoked fish, cream cheese) and a cocktail many people don't like (blood mary).  These were such strange choices--people may not have food allergies, but this dish/drink are acquired tastes that at least 50% of people I know (including half of my party) don't like.  They also have nothing to do with Sacramento (neither bagels nor fish nor the cocktail are local or inherent to Sacramento in any way).  It seems like this is what I would get on an NYC food tour.  The deli/building we visited was very cool, I will give it that.

The next stop was also a bit bizarre however--a fast food restaurant (that was formerly a Sacramento food truck, so at least some local connection) that served Nashville style fried chicken.  It was good--but what was the point of this?  Again, extraordinarily thin connection to Sac.  I have been to Nashville.  I have eaten fried chicken there.  I am in Sacramento now.

The last stop took us to a local restaurant that served us a poblano pepper soup (and a side of a cooked pepper with onions--again, food many people don't eat).  Here we learned they roasted the local peppers outside the restaurant to make this soup--which was great.  Finally something that belonged on a food tour.

And the backdrop of all of this was a trip down K Street, a desolate stretch of avenue filled with boarded up businesses and large numbers of homeless folks.  This is the street you choose to do the food tour?

The guide was super nice and friendly, but this event was not worth the money for us.  We didn't like the food.  We thought the street we spent most of our time on to lack scenery and was very run down.  And we didn't taste much cuisine native to Sacramento or celebrating the agriculture of the Central Valley which Sacto is sort known as the "headquarters" of.

Pass on this.
