  • Standard Fare Cancellations - Italo Treno allows cancelations for standard fares up to 3 minutes before the departure of the train. The customer receives a voucher valid for one year equal to the full price of the ticket minus a 20% cancellation fee.
  • Economy Fare Cancellations - Economy fare tickets can be cancelled up to 3 days before the departure and also provide a voucher worth the ticket price after subtracting a cancellation charge of 40%. Cancellations made less than 3 days in advance will not be refunded.
  • Low Cost Fare Cancellations - Low cost fare does not allow for cancellations and refunds at any time.
  • Exceptional Circumstances - In case of extreme circumstances, such as natural disasters, strikes, or situations beyond passengers' control, cancellations could be processed without a fee on a case-by-case basis. However, there is no public policy from Italo Treno guaranteeing this.
  • No-Show Cancellations - Train tickets with Italo Treno are not refundable in case of passenger absence (no-show) under standard fare conditions. However, customers with Flex tickets can request a voucher within 2 hours of departure.
  • Cancellations Due to Changes in Travel Plans - Italo Treno does not refund or provide any compensation for changes in travel plans under any fare options.
  • Train Delays or Cancellations - Italo Treno passengers may be entitled to a refund or compensation in case a train is cancelled or delayed. The level of compensation depends on the extent of the delay and ranges from 25% of the ticket price (delayed for one to two hours) to 50% of the ticket price (delayed for two hours or more). Claims must be filed within 12 months of the travel date.

  • Every passenger is permitted to carry up to 2 pieces of large luggage (up to 75x53x30cm each).
  • There is no luggage weight limit; however, passengers must be able to handle their luggage independently.
  • Alongside the two large pieces, passengers can also bring one piece of hand luggage that can fit inside overhead compartments.
  • Bulky objects, such as surfboards, that exceed the maximum luggage dimensions (75x53x30cm) are not allowed.
  • Bicycles are not permitted on Italo trains, unless they are folded and placed in bicycle bags fitting within the luggage size limit.

General Italian Train Pet Policy

  • Small pets including dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds can travel with their owners in carriers not exceeding the dimensions of 70x30x50cm.
  • Each passenger is allowed to bring only one carrier.
  • Pets should be placed at the feet of the passenger and should not obstruct the aisles or other passengers. Large carriers may not be stored on the seat or in the luggage area.
  • Animals must remain inside their carriers for the entire duration of the journey.
  • Passengers are fully responsible for their pets and any damages or inconvenience caused by their pets.
  • Guide dogs accompanying visually or hearing impaired passengers are allowed on all trains without restrictions.
  • Passengers travelling with pets might need a special ticket for their pet, depending on the train company’s rules.
