Lisbon (private tour)
Olá! You will learn about the City of Seven Hills, enjoy the amazing views and vibes that Lisbon has to offer, and experience the best viewpoints of the city – we call them miradouros, which means ‘golden views’ – you will understand why! For example, the miradouro of Nossa Senhora do Monte is where we will get an amazing perspective of the Castle of Lisbon and of the old town which embraces the river. We will tour the most typical neighborhoods in Lisbon, such as Baixa, Chiado, Alfama, Graça, or Mouraria. After all the up and down (it’s a very hilly city!), we will go south and cross the bridge that was named after the revolution day (25th of April Bridge) that finished the Salazar dictatorship in 1974. This bridge is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA (it’s our Golden Gate). On the south side, we will enjoy the best view of Lisbon at the Christ the King Statue. The statue was erected in 1959 to thank God for sparing Portugal from the horrors of World War II and it was inspired by the Brazilian version of this statue. You will be amazed by this astonishing view as well as be able to identify all of the places where we stopped. Then is time to go back to the 15th century to learn about all of the adventures of the brave Portuguese navigators. We will have the opportunity to appreciate different monuments, such as the magnificent Monastery of Jeronimos (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos), classified by UNESCO, which was built to celebrate the discovery of a sea route to India in 1498 by our most important navigator, Vasco da Gama. You can enjoy the outside and visit the church. We will also appreciate the remarkable Torre de Belem (outside only) or the beautiful Padrao dos Descobrimentos also known as Discoveries Monument (outside only).Last but not least, we will taste the best well-kept secret of the Portuguese pastry, the Pastéis de Belém! It’s a secret recipe invented by the monks in 1837 and it is still kept a secret. There is a local ritual to eating these delicacies that we will share with you (Pasteis de Belem is included in the price; 1 per person). This is the best way to end this introduction to Lisbon.Bem-vindo!

Itinerary
Largo do Carmo
The Largo do Carmo is one of the most beautiful squares in Lisbon. We'll learn a lot about the 1755 earthquake (the Carmo church is since that time a ruin), about the aqueduct system and all the fountains and galleries we have in Lisbon or about the 1974 democratic revolution (the last Portuguese dictator was arrested here). We’ll have the opportunity to visit the Neo-gothic Elevador de Santa Justa (built in 1902) and to enjoy beautiful views.
Chiado district
The Chiado district is the most popular and expensive area in the old town of Lisbon. Here you can find, not only nice viewpoints but also old cafes and bookstores, boutiques, grand theaters, etc.
Baixa district
The Baixa district was totally destroyed by the 1755 earthquake. This area was rebuilt as a grid with beautiful squares by the Marquis of Pombal (the prime minister of the king at the time). It’s the commercial heart of the city and the only flat district in the old town of Lisbon.
Alfama district
Alfama district is the Lisbon soul, the oldest neighborhood, a magical place with narrow streets, hidden courtyards, pitched rooftops and labyrinthine alleyways.
Miradouro da Senhora do Monte
This lookout point is perfect to relax and to enjoy one of the best panoramic views in Lisbon. It’s a great place to see the São Jorge Castle, the Tagus river and lovely neighborhoods like Mouraria, Baixa, Chiado, among others.
April 25th bridge
We'll cross the April 25th bridge (lookalike the Golden Gate Bridge), a giant and scenic suspension bridge that connects the north and south side of Lisbon. It was renamed after the revolution day (April 25th) that finished the Salazar dictatorship in 1974.
Christ the King Statue
The site where’s Christ the King Statue (Cristo Rei) was built is the best viewpoint over Lisbon. From here, we will have a gorgeous view of the city and the Tagus River. This statue, inspired on the Brazilian one, was erected in 1959 to thank God for sparing Portugal from the horrors of WWII. We won’t go up (there’s a fee to go up, but the view is pretty much the same from the bottom).
Pastéis de Belém
It’s not possible to came to Lisbon without tasting the most well keep secret of the Portuguese pastries, the Pasteis de Belem. Everything started in 1837 in a small bakery and you’ll have the chance to try one (it's included in the price). There is also a local ritual to eating these delicacies that we will share with you.
Mosteiro dos Jeronimos
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos is the most popular monument in Portugal. It’s King Manuel I tribute to the great explorers of the 15th century (which includes the sea route to India founded by Vasco da Gama in 1498). We’ll not only learn about the Portuguese maritime discoveries, but we’ll also visit the church where Vasco da Gama is buried (we won’t go inside the monastery, but we'll visit the church).
Torre de Belem
The Torre de Belém (Belem tower) is a 500 years old fortification that was built in a small Island in the Tagus River. It was part of a defense system at the mouth of the river and a ceremonial gateway into Lisbon. It’s classified by UNESCO as World Heritage. Please note that we’re not going inside the monument.
Padrao dos Descobrimentos
The Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the discovers) was built to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Henry the Navigator’s death. Has the representation of all the important people that contributed to the big Portuguese achievements, like Vasco da Gama, Bartolomeu Dias, Pedro Álvares Cabral, Ferdinand Magellan among others).
