Your private city tour starts with pickup at your Barcelona accommodation by your guide, who introduces you to the city’s top features and gives you tips you can use during the rest of your stay. Head first to Passeig de Gràcia, known for its line of modernist buildings such as La Pedrera (Casa Milà), Casa Lleó, and Casa Batlló. Continue to Eixample, designed by Ildefons Cerdà as an extension of the old town, and pass by Hospital de Sant Pau, another modernist masterpiece. When you arrive at La Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudí’s famously unfinished legacy, you have skip-the-line access so you can go straight in to marvel at the remarkable architecture. Inside this modernism jewel, admire the columns, ceiling and other features to try to understand Gaudí’s symbolism. Next, visit the Ciutat Vella neighborhood, passing by the Arc de Triomf. Continue to the city’s waterfront, traveling from Port Vell near La Rambla to the World Trade Center Barcelona. Head next to Montjuïc outside the city center to enjoy a view of the city, including facilities from the 1992 Summer Olympic Games and the International Exhibition of 1929. Then go back into town for a leisurely walking tour through the Gothic Quarter, the city’s historical district of narrow streets and charming spots.

Itinerary

  • Plaza de Catalunya

  • Parc de Montjuic

Head straight to the Montjuïc Mountain and enjoy splendid panoramic views of the city. The mountain was a strategy to defend the city against attacks. Now it is home to the famous Miró foundation and the Caixa Forúm. These and other buildings on Montjuïc, perfectly illustrate examples of modern art and contemporary architecture. Get the chance to see examples of town planning and architecture especially designed for the 1929 International Exhibition.

    30 minutes
  • Estadi Olimpic

The Montjuïc Olympic Stadium is Barcelona's main Olympic facility. It is home to concerts and major sporting events. The second-largest stadium in the world at the time, it was designed for the 1936 Olympic Games, but due to the political situation of the time they never took place there and the stadium fell into disuse until it was remodeled for the 1992 Olympic Games.

  • Las Ramblas

  • Mercat de la Boqueria

Along the way in the Ramblas, you may pass by the most known covered market of the city, La Boquería. Have a look at the main entrance and feel the hustling and bustling of the market from the minivan.

  • Mirador de Colom

Along the way, at the lower end of La Rambla, you will see the Columbus Monument, pointing to a very unusual location... Find out more information with your local expert guide.

Pass by Barcelona's Olympic Marina, one of the city's most popular leisure areas. 30 minutes
  • Museu d'Historia de Catalunya

Pass by the Catalonia History Museum, standing over the Barcelona waterfront. The historic brick building that now houses the museum was originally built in the 1880s to store goods arriving at the port. Since getting a facelift in anticipation of the 1992 Olympics, the building now houses also several street-level bars and restaurants.

  • Port Olimpic

Pass by Barcelona's Olympic Marina, one of the city's most popular leisure areas. • Gold Fish Sculpture (Escultura el Peix d'Or)

Have a look at the Frank Gehry's spectacular goldfish sculpture at the base of the Hotel Arts and to the nearby Gran Casino de Barcelona.

  • La Barceloneta

Pass by the Barceloneta, once the home of fishermen, people associated with the fishing trade and the metal industry, and nowadays one of the city's most visited and popular districts. The neighborhood, with its narrow, rectilinear streets, was built on a military grid structure to provide accommodation for the former inhabitants of La Ribera who had lost their homes due to the construction of the Citadel Park.

  • Playa de La Barceloneta

Located in the traditional fishing district, this is one of Barcelona's oldest and best-loved beaches. It is thought to have inspired Miguel de Cervantes as the setting for the fight between Don Quixote and the Knight of the White Moon. It was here that the knight errant was finally defeated and abandoned his quest.

  • Ciutat Vella

Continue the day with a walking tour of the medieval Old Town of Barcelona. Enjoy a stroll in the Gothic Quarter, where the history of Barcelona began. Learn about Catalan traditions and Barcelona’s origins, while exploring enchanting corners, picturesque plazas and the narrow alleys of the Gothic quarter.

    30 minutes
  • Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic)

Walk in a maze of winding streets dating back to Roman times, live the passing of times through medieval and gothic architecture, have a look to the transformation of a city from its oldest times to a modern and vibrant lifestyle.

    30 minutes
  • Placa Reial

Visit the Royal Square, one of Barcelona's busiest, most vibrant spots of the Old Town. Have a look at the lamp posts made by a very young Gaudí and take the best of the shade of the palm trees. Find out why it is called the Royal Square even if the king has never lived in this square...

    10 minutes
  • Placa de Sant Jaume

In the ancient Roman city of Barcelona, the Plaça Sant Jaume was the site of the Forum, the meeting place and stage for political debate. It could be said that the square continues to fulfill the same role today, as it is flanked by Barcelona's two political powerhouses: Barcelona City Hall and the seat of the Catalan government, the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

    10 minutes
  • City Hall (Casa de la Ciutat / Ayuntamiento)

City Hall, also known as the “Casa de la Ciutat” (the house of the city), stands on one side of the Plaça Sant Jaume, right in the middle of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and in front of the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya. The neoclassical façade conceals Gothic gems such as the historic Great Hall, or Saló de Cent, designed by Pere Llobet and built in the 14th century.

    5 minutes
  • Palau De La Generalitat De Catalunya

The Palau de la Generalitat in Barcelona is the seat of the Catalan government. The Palau has pure Gothic, flamboyant Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements behind the neoclassical façade.

    5 minutes
  • MUHBA Temple d'August

As you explore Barcelona's Gothic Quarter you'll come across one of the city's best-kept secrets. Inside a small medieval courtyard, the four columns from the Temple of Augustus have survived despite the passing of the centuries. They are more than 2,000 years old, like Barcelona itself.

    5 minutes
  • Placa del Rei

Pass by the Monumental King’s Square, the Gothic architectural ensemble which best exemplifies the city's medieval past. The royal palace, the Palau Reial Major, and its surrounding buildings, enclose a harmonious and peaceful square which is still imbued with Barcelona's splendor during the Middle Ages.

An absolute must-see visit while walking through the Old Town of the city and listening to the fascinating stories of your guide.

    10 minutes
  • Barcelona Cathedral

Pass by the Barcelona Cathedral and discover its façade and the combination of Romanesque, Gothic and neo-Gothic styles due to the fact that it was built over six centuries. Funded by donations from the medieval brotherhoods and guilds, the building work in Santa Creu commenced in 1298 and was completed around 1890, following the original plans, in the neo-Gothic style.

    10 minutes
  • Placa Sant Felip Neri

The romantic, slightly faded Plaça Sant Felip Neri is an unmissable corner of the Gothic Quarter. Presided over by the baroque church from which it takes its name, the square features a number of historic elements that make it particularly attractive.

    5 minutes
  • Major Synagogue

The Greater Synagogue of Barcelona is one of the oldest in Europe and the last one to be discovered. Located in a privileged environment, the Call de Barcelona, the old Jewish quarter of the city, which still retains its medieval architecture.

  • L'Eixample District

Get back on the road and drive through the Eixample district, designed by Ildefons Cerdà after 1895, to expand the city. (The word “Eixample” actually means “expansion” in Catalan). Passing by the streets of this elegant neighborhood, you will note that Cerdà’s concept of urban planning was revolutionary and utopian.

  • Passeig de Gracia

Along the way, pass through Passeig de Gràcia, with its typical Catalan architecture. The avenue is home to the most remarkable façades of modernist buildings, including Gaudi’s La Pedrera, Casa Batlló and Domènech’s Casa Lleó - Morera or Cadafalch’s Casa Ametller.

  • Casa Lleo i Morera

Along the way, you will pass by Casa Lleó - Morera or Casa Ametller, built by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech, the University teacher of Gaudí.

  • Casa Batllo

Along the way, pass by the Casa Batlló, one of Antoni Gaudí’s most impressive houses. This façade is an absolutely must see while being in Barcelona.

  • Casa Mila - La Pedrera

Along the way, pass by Casa Milá-La Pedrera and get enchanted by its atypical shape. Listen to your guide telling you about this piece of art by the hands of Gaudí and get to know why this building is known as ‘La Pedrera’ (the house of stones).

  • Basilica de la Sagrada Familia

Drive to the last destination of this tour, the life project of a genius or a fool, with no doubts the Sagrada Familia will leave a lifelong impression. Experience a moment full of emotion, admiring Gaudi's masterpiece, considered as the most emblematic landmark of Barcelona.

There are no words to describe the feeling one gets when entering this magnificent temple of Modernism. The organic shapes found throughout its structure, the light filtering through its stained glass windows and the symbolic nature of the building’s sculpted façade will certainly be the highlight of your tour.
